Detox... Day 2

Woke this morning feeling awful; got on the scales and felt marginally better as I was 2lbs down.

Managed to drink the Day 2 smoothie from J J Smith's book, then could only manage some grapes a little later because I felt so nauseous and the headache was all consuming.  I gave in to the pain and went to bed.  Luckily I had bargained for the caffeine withdrawal to be painful so I had a clear schedule.

Started to feel a little bit better in the evening but still had a fairly bad headache (though not migraine proportions), so ate a few more grapes and a boiled egg, then managed some peanut butter.

So far I have felt awful during this detox.  The boyfriend is puzzled as to why I'm doing it to myself.  I figure if it is having this bad an effect then surely what I normally consume can't be good for me, so feeling this bad has made me more determined!

Detox... Day 1

So Christmas is over and although the cupboards are still bursting at the seams with food, I'm done with feeling bloated.  I was actually ready to start a detox before Christmas, but that would have been torture, so I held out and enjoyed all the fabulous food... well Christmas only comes round once a year.

I had planned to start the detox on Saturday but didn't anticipate how long the mountains of food would last.  So although there is still a lot left, they are things that my boyfriend will happily eat.

Day 1 of the detox started yesterday, and to get the full picture of each day I will upload the following day.  I am loosely followoing J J Smith's 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse.  I say loosely because the book was due to arrive later in the day and once it did I found that she details making one large smooothie in the morning and using this all through the day, but I prefer to have different smoothies for each meal, I'm easily bored!

So for the first smoothie I had a concoction of spinach, pineapple, green grapes and apple and it was prettty tasty.

Although I'm sure it doesn't look tasty!  Then for lunch I had spinach, banana, raspberries and almond milk, which again was good.  Then the book arrived and I found that the recipes only used water so I won't be using almond milk again.  I found a few more ingredients that were needed so made my way to the supermarket to pick these up, having a few nuts beforehand to try and curb the hunger.  The side effects had started.  I was feeling a little 'spacey' and not able to concentrate, but managed to get everything on my list.  I got home and had a spoonful of peanut butter and took my dog for a walk.

For the evening smoothie I had a small version of the recipe from the book and then a had a few nuts and seeds.  The headache was starting.  Caffeine withdrawal, as I had only been drinking water all day, and boy did it hit.  I went to bed early and had a really bad night's sleep because of the pain, similar to a migraine, and the nasea.  I ended up getting up at about 3am to have some paracetamol and having some better quality sleep after that.

Here's hoping the benefits will start soon.

Curly Hair Days

I normally always wear my hair straight, and it's not that I don't like doing other things with it, it's just that I'm generally too lazy to get up earlier on a day to day basis, when I'm lucky to even get breakfast without being late for work.  But I currently have a faulty hairdryer that won't work for more than a couple of minutes without turning itself off so I figured I'd let my hair dry naturally.  It always sounds so zen to let one's hair dry naturally without the use of heat or products while doing the Reverse Warrior Pose (not that I can do yoga but it fits with my vision so humour me) and I always imagine that with this comes naturally amazing hair because I'm being so kind to it.  Wrong.  What I'm left with, when it finally dried, is a mop of limp hair with odd strands flicking out at weird angles and emphasised frizzy damaged ends that desperately need a trip to the hairdresser's.  So I reach for the ghd's to make myself look presentable and figure that curling will only take the same amount of time as straightening, and it will give my hair the bit of volume that it craves.  Just for the record, I discovered curling takes longer than straightening - to my boyfriend's dismay.... whoops!  But my hair was finally presentable and I could get on with my day.

My hair also doesn't hold curls very well, they are fine for a few hours but start to look a bit sorry for themselves by the end of the day, but I am able to convince myself that I was going for beach waves anyway.  The following morning and it's a different story.  There are a few odd kinks left so I have to do some light emergency curl repairs with my ghd's - to my boyfriend's dismay again (why is he always in such a hurry!), and this is the light curl result.

So today was a curly hair day, but that's because yesterday was a curly hair day and that's only because of the faulty hairdryer!  Hmmm it's nice to do something different but I'm looking forward to getting a new hairdryer and reverting back to my straight uncomplicated average hair day.

My first blog should definitely have a picture, queue relevant quirky picture....

Hopefully my next post will be a little more interesting, but I'm easing myself in gently for the timebeing.
